Houses of Hamburg

Rathaus (City Hall). Luxurious sandstone building in neorenaissance
style, built from 1886-97. The interior is worth seeing: with 647 rooms
(six more than Buckingham Palace) it is the seat of the City Parliament
and the Supreme Court.

Deichstresse. Old merchant's street with 17th to 19th century offices and
town houses. Variety of outstanding restaurants. Painstakingly restored,
the Deichstresse is where the Great Fire broke out in 1842, destroying
one third of the city centre.

The Courts.

Chilehause.

Binnenalster with fountain.
Planetarium. On of the modern planetariums in the world. Hegh-tech helps
create a natural full-scale projection of the galaxy on the inside of the Europe's
largest planetarium dome (21m) and demonstrates how the stars move as well
as many space effects. An exhibition about the history of the astrology
completes your visit.

Hamburg State Opera.
